Apple And Bacon Puff Pastry Tart Recipe

Ingredients:

2 sheets puff pastry
6 strips bacon, cut into small cubs
2 medium sized yellow onions, sliced thinly
2 apples , cut into small cubs
1/2 tbsp cinnamon
1/2 tbsp salt
2-3 tbsp cider vinegar
1 egg yolk mixed with one tbsp warm water

Preparation:

Remove puff pastry from refrigerator.Preheat microwave oven  375ºF.

Method:

Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface then cut into rectangles of matching size.Line a second baking sheet with baking parchment.Place 1/2 of rectangles on a baking sheet.Mix nuts, bacon jam, bacon and apples together and spoon onto rectangles on baking sheet. slowly cook the onions with a pinch of salt until they are completely soft and caramelized.Using a pastry brush, brush edges of dough with beaten egg.Top with remaining rectangles and seal by pressing edges together.Brush egg over top layer and make decorative slashes in pastry.Sprinkle with coarse sugar and bake 15-25 minutes, depending on size of strudels.sprinkle over the lemon juice.(this will help stop them turning brown).Bake until the tips of each turnover are toasted brown and the tops are golden. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.These turnovers are at their flakiest within a few hours after baking.

Tips:

Leftovers stored in the fridge will still be delicious, but not as flaky. If you are planning on having leftovers, it’s better to freeze the turnovers un-baked and then bake them off individually.
