Broken Wheat Idli Godhumai Rava Idli Recipe
Wheat rava or broken wheat is called ‘dalia’ in hindi and ‘godhuma rava’ in telugu.this instant dalia idli is a steamed preparation that requires no fermentation. You have to mix everything together.
Allow wheat rava idli batter to sit for few minutes for the flavours to meld, pour the batter into greased idli plates or cups and steam it up till it is done.
Sour curd lends a subtle tangy flavour while fresh green chillies and ginger spice up the idli.
Coriander leaves add a fresh colour and gives a pleasant flavour.
The tempering of spices like mustard seeds, aromatic curry leaves and asafoetida in ghee pulls it all together.You can add some roasted cashew nuts along with the tempering.

1 cup Broken Wheat rava /dalia/godhuma rava
1/2 cup Curd(Sour)
one Carrot peeled and grated (optional)
1 Green chillies finely chopped (optional)
A sprig Curry leaves roughly chopped (optional)
Salt as required
Water as required
Oil to grease idli moulds
Fresh coriander leaves Chopped
1/2 tablespoon Mustard seeds
1/2 tablespoon Urad dal (optional)
10 Broken cashews
1/4 tablespoon Asafoetida (hing/inguva)
1 tbsp Ghee or oil

In a pan dry roast the Broken Wheat rava /dalia/godhuma rava for 6-8 minutes in low flame,till nice aroma will come outside,turn off heat. keep aside for cooldown.In pan add ghee once hot add Mustard seeds,allow to split and add Urad dal,Broken cashews.Add asafoetida and curry leaves roast for a few seconds. Add the grated carrot and stir well and fry for 4-5 minutes and turn off heat.
In a bowl take wheat rava and add sour curd,salt stir well and add coriander leaves,add the tempering and mix well.If need water you can add some water.Make Idli batter consistency.Keep aside for 30 minutes.
Grease idli mould with oil. Pour idli batter in the holes. Place in a steamer, and cook for 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat. Leave to cool down slightly. Open steamer, and remove idli from the moulds. Repeat with the rest of the batter.
Using rice cooker:
Grease idli mould with oil. Pour idli batter in the holes.Pour some water(approximately 2 cups) in rice cooker squeeze 2 to 3 drops of lime juice.Place the idli moulds in rice cooker,Cook for 20 minutes and remove outside,serve hot with chutney.
Apply oil on the microwave oven idli container and pour idli batter into the moulds.
Set the microwave for 3 minutes on medium power.
When idlis are prepared take them out with a help of a knife or Spoon.
Remove them from the microwave idli container and transfer to serving bowl.
Serve hot with chutney or sambar.
You can make plain Broken Wheat rava Idli without adding tempering.
Other variation of this recipe can be made with 1 cup cracked wheat and 1 cup ragi flour.
